Dr. K.K. Garg

Dr. K.K. Garg is a distinguished environmental scientist and policy expert with over three decades of experience in environmental governance, regulatory compliance, and sustainable development. After completing his M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, he joined the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change in 1984 and served with dedication for 32 years, retiring as Advisor in 2016. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in evaluating and regulating major developmental projects across India, conducting over 1,000 site inspections in sectors such as industry, mining, thermal power, infrastructure, and river valley projects.

His work focused extensively on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), and environmental compliance, including air and water quality assessments. He also served as Member Secretary in Environment Appraisal Committee meetings, processed Environmental Clearances (EC) and Terms of Reference (TOR) as Director in the Impact Assessment Division, and represented the Ministry in national committees and legal forums, including court-directed panels.

In recent years, Dr. Garg has continued to contribute to environmental capacity building and knowledge dissemination. He completed a specialized 15-day online course on Water Audit and Conservation in Industries organized by Centre for Science and Environment in 2020 and served as an Assessor with the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training during 2023–2024 for accrediting consultancy firms engaged in EIA report preparation. An accomplished author, he has written several scientific and educational books, including Current Environmental Issues, Environment Lessons for Common Man, Saturday – School Environment Day, and his recent publication Introduction to Environment Studies (2023), based on the UGC syllabus and designed for graduate and postgraduate students. Through this work, Dr. Garg carries a strong mission to make environmental education accessible to all, aspiring to ensure that his book reaches students at a nominal cost or is made freely available to those in need, reinforcing his commitment to knowledge sharing and a sustainable future.
